WEBINAR: Analyzing PowerMOS Devices to Reduce Power

PowerMOS devices play a major role in a variety of power converter and control circuits. Some examples of their applications include boost and buck converters. Often these are used in mobile and IoT devices to convert battery voltages to circuit operating voltages. Their efficiency is critical to obtaining longer operating times. Power wasted in converter circuits it is not available for device operation. Mobile and IoT system designers are always looking for ways to incrementally improve converter circuit efficiency, and they know that optimizing PowerMOS devices is an effective method for accomplishing this. Analysis tools that can thoroughly model the internal behavior of these complex devices are required if performance is to be improved. Large PowerMOS devices have complex internal interconnect structures. This interconnect affects Rdson and timing of the gate transition. Gate widths on the order of several meters are not uncommon and can reach up above 10 meters or more. Thermal effects caused by joule self-heating and neighboring circuit elements can also have an impact on device performance. Magwel is offering a free webinar on the topic of analyzing PowerMOS devices with the goal of improving circuit performance. The talk by Allan Laser, Magwel Field Application Engineer, will discuss the challenges of modeling device behavior and getting accurate Rdson and other information about performance.
